If you have a loved one buried at Willard Cemetery and would like for them to be memorialized on a monument there, please e-mail Colleen Kelly Spellecy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The WIllard Cemetery Memorial Project has grown out of the concern for the 5,776 Willard patients that are buried in unnamed and unremembered graves at Willard Cemetery, Willard, New York, as well as those buried at Ovid Union Cemetery in “Patients Row” and unmarked patients in Holy Cross Cemetery. After reading the book, “The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases From A State Hospital Attic,” by Darby Penney and Peter Stastny. Colleen Kelly Spellecy felt compelled and committed to rectify the situation of unremembered souls buried with no name and no markers. Several well-qualified people stepped up to serve on a committee to assist her in working toward the goal of memorializing these forgotten souls.
